The historical and cultural practices of bathing has been an essential part of wellness, socializing, relaxation and cultural expression. AIRE Ancient Baths connects many aspects of various bathing cultures from around the world. By integrating cold plunge baths, heated or body temperature baths, salt water baths which are perfect for floating in and a waterfall bathing experience. Nearly a dozen different bathing areas, two large steam rooms and optional services such as scrubs, massages, or other body treatments leaving AIRE will feel refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated, just as we did.
Booking & Arrival:
When making reservations every hour slot, a small number of people are allowed to enter the baths, ensuring that the space remains unpopulated to allow each guest to have a tranquil and un-disruptive experience. A packed bathing suit and the essentials arrive 10-15 minutes early to enjoy a fresh pot of mint tea and enjoy the services. Change rooms are no short of locker space, large tiled showers, benches for meditating or stretching. Lockers are equipped with water shoes which must be worn at all times during the bathing experience, a robe which can be taken down to the baths. All electronic devices such as cellphones and personal belongings are to be kept in the locker so as to not be distracted.
There are several areas of rest around the bathing space with herb and fruit infused waters, hot Moroccan teas, and other beverages for guests to stay hydrated.
Essentials to Bring:
The only thing needed for the bathing experience is a swimsuit, and in the event that guests forget, AIRE has swimsuits that can be borrowed too. Provided to guests are small essentials such as Dyson hairdryers, hair ties, combs, toiletry items.
The Baths:
The ambiance throughout the space is magical as the lights are low, the pools are dimly lit, and being surrounded by plenty of candles. With the various pools to dip in and out of throughout your time at AIRE. Guests can enjoy a salt water bath for floating, the baths with jets, cold plunge known as Frigidarium, the hot bath known as the Caldarium. There are also two wet steam saunas where you will find one scented with eucalyptus and the other with lavender a perfect place to clear out your pores. To get the most of the experience sprinkled around the bathing areas are several different showers to rinse off between baths or after spending time in one of the saunas. Each bathing area includes a salt exfoliation area which includes a large supply of mineral salts to exfoliate any dead skin away, revealing soft, glowing skin underneath.
The Experience:
Our group opted for a 30 minute massage, which was the perfect way to unwind from sightseeing Chicago. We highly recommend doing a quick meditation before entering the baths as it’ll leave you relaxed and ready to experience the journey. The experience itself was simply phenomenal. Soaking in and relaxing in the baths, whether it’s the mineral baths or saunas it was by far one of the best experiences to date due to how indulgent it was. The team at AIRE have created something so restorative and relaxing in Chicago that we’re already looking forward to going back for another visit. The entire experience felt as though we were in a subterranean space where peace and candlelight illumination transported us to another world of relaxation. A true space and sense meant for just being.
Each reservation lasts for two hours based on the selected start time. Our group scheduled an afternoon session which was a perfect way to end a busy day exploring the city. AIRE does limit the number of reservations each hour so the entire experience will always feel intimate.
