Keep the Love Lockdown?

Shout out to Yeezy for the title of our Valentines Day post. Had to change it up to avoid copyright violations LOL.

As we approach almost a year of COVID, every religious and “Hallmark” holiday has been changed in some way forcing us to get creative with how we celebrate.

Traditionally, Valentine’s Day was predictable and some might even say simple. The celebration would usually involve something along the lines of dinner at a really nice restaurant, a card, flowers, dessert and maybe even all of the above.

While, we’ve always felt that showing your partner love and appreciation everyday is one of the keys to a successful marriage, V-day is just another reminder to stay true to that.

Since we’re still in lockdown, just like all the other holidays this past year, we are going to have to get creative with our date night in.

Here are 10 ways to spend Valentine’s Day while in lockdown.

  1. Bake Off Time

We’re sure everyone has had enough practice making banana bread and other yummy treats while locked down, so why not use that experience to have a bake off while making each other treats. Some great options include:

  • Brownies
  • Cheesecake
  • Cookies
  • Cupcakes

2. Dining In

While dining at a restaurant may not be an option right now, restaurants are still open for take out. So, why not support local by bringing home your favourite spot and transforming your space.

  • Decorate your table with fairy lights and candles
  • Make sure to choose a starter, main and dessert for the full experience
  • Get out of the sweats and hoodies and dress up

Our V-Day plans are to order from Terroni, we highly recommend the Funghi Assoluti as a starter and for dessert, the Tiramisu is always on point.

3. Nature Walk & Picnic

Parks and trails are also still open for us to get fresh air and having a picturesque outing together is always something to freshen the moment. Choose a local trail to explore in your area. Here are some great winter trails to check out.  If you’re able to time it right, you might even be lucky to catch the sunset. If your area’s lockdown orders do not allow for essential exercise, worry not, there is always the option of a morning coffee walk or a picnic in the backyard.  Depending on the weather you can have a picnic at home with an incredible spread. Make sure to set the scene with a picnic blanket and pack a basket.

4. What’s Poppin’ in the BEST Seat in the House

Even though theatres are closed and we’ve all been binge watching shows on the regular, change it up and encompass the full theatre experience at home.

  • First up, you will need an abundance of snacks – chips, nachos and popcorn are all on the list.
  • Next, try and rearrange the cushions, sofa and blankets so you can snuggle in and watch something together or virtually.
  • Finally, pick the movie!

Having a hard time deciding what to watch, make it fun – write down your top 5 movies on a piece of paper and get your other half to pick it out of a bowl. If you still can’t decide then here are the top 50 Romance movies  according to IMDb for some inspiration.

5. It’s Hunting Season

As cheesy as a treasure hunt sounds, when there is a little surprise at the end it always makes things interesting. The first time I said I love you to Haroon I had a scavenger hunt of post- it notes around our place and at the end it was my way of saying I love you. You could also buy small gifts or chocolates and hide them around your place and give clues to your other half to help find them!

6. Self Care is Always Love

Planning a spa day at home is such a great way to pamper yourself and your partner. Pick up some sheet masks, snacks, magazines and spa-like music to set the tone.  It’s a minimal effort activity, but will look like a lot of effort went into it.

7. A Gouda Paint Night

Unleash your inner artists by having a paint night in. Pick any image to your ability and get a few items (canvas, paint, brushes, etc) and create art together. Don’t forget the charcuterie board to munch on while painting!

8. Game On

A little friendly competition never hurts anybody. Lately we’ve been taking it back to the classics and have been playing Super Nintendo. We’ve also been told LittleBigPlanet 3 is a great game to work together rather than against each other. It’s fun and easy to play. We’ve also really been into making mocktails especially on Taco Tuesday nights. So, why not put the two together and make a night of it!

 9. Trippin’ Down Memory Lane

We find that sentimental gifts are one to capture significant moments. Instead of doing a scrapbook, make a video montage of adorable snaps of you both together. There are great apps to use such as iMovie, Splice, etc.

10. Speed Dating

Skype, Zoom, Teams and Googlemeet have all become our source of communication. Valentine’s day shouldn’t just be about your partner, but also about the people you love and who love you. With WFH we’ve all become experts at video conferencing, so why not use it and call our loved ones since we can’t see them.

To make your Valentine’s Day extra special this weekend we have curated a Local and Small Business Guide. Here you can find sweet ideas for valentine’s gifts for yourself, a special someone/people. Why not treat yourself and/or loved ones? You have an excuse, it’s V-day!

Hope you found this helpful! Let us know what plans you have for Valentine’s Day!
